Colorful lichen growing on a rock in the
arid Nevada desert.
The aptly-named Sand Mountain.  A
"singing mountain", it is composed of
grains of sand that sometimes create a
low moan as they shift in the winds.
New York, New York offers a recreation
of the Big Apple's skyline including a
150-foot Statue of Liberty.  Guest room
towers are look-alikes of the Empire
State & Chrysler Buildings. The casino
looks like Central Park and shops and
restaurants resemble Greenwich Village
& other NY neighborhoods.
Red and blue spires cap the white
turrets of a medieval castle at the
Excalibur Hotel & Casino.  Inside is a
moat complete with dragons.  Jugglers,
magicians, singers and puppeteers
entertain at the Court Jester's stage.
The Luxor Hotel - A 30-story pyramid
and sphinx welcome you inside to view
gold statues, friezes, wall hieroglyphics
and reproductions of Egyptian artifacts.
A 50-story Eiffel Tower replica is the
signature landmark for Paris Las
Vegas.  Shops and restaurants are a
pretty good re-creation of their French
counterparts!
A drive down the Las Vegas Strip - a
testament to illusion and fantasy.  After
a week spent at National Parks, it's a
bit jarring to the senses!  Here we see
the Garden Of The Gods at Caesar's
Palace.
Treasure Island includes a palm-edged
lagoon, gangplanks and a pirate village.
Impressive mountain peaks dotted with
pine, spruce, fir and mountain
mahogany along the Wheeler Peak
Scenic Drive.  This is part of Great
Basin National Park.
We saw several dust funnels during
our drive on US 50, known as "The
Loneliest Road in America".
In remote eastern Nevada near the
Utah border, Great Basin often has
more wildlife than human visitors.
