West Princes Street Gardens in New
Town Edinburgh
Clock flower arrangement, West Princes
Street Gardens near the Royal Mile
A medieval village, Edinburgh
Castle, high atop a rock hill on
an extinct volcano
Remains of Dunkeld Cathedral,
Perthshire, across from the Firth of Tay
A seaside home & gardens in Crail, a
fishing village north of the Firth of Forth,
in the region of Fife
Enjoying a carefree summer day at the
Crail seaside
Home after home had lush and well
cared for floral gardens
Stone fences separate pasture areas
in the Northern Highlands
The weather was perfect for our drive
on single track "black roads" along a
series of lakes...
Loch Shin, Loch Merkland, Loch More,
Loch Stack, Loch Laxford... We thought
Loch Maree the most beautiful.
Spectacular but subtle colors -
numerous shades of green, lavender,
brilliant blue & bits of pink and yellow
There are definitely more sheep than
people in the Highlands... and the
sheep let you know who's in chage
Calm... serene... fabulous!
Loch Torridon Country House Hotel -
a grand place to stay
Originally a hunting lodge built by the
Earl of Lovelace, now beautifully
restored
Our first view of Highland cattle... and
what a view it was!
An ominous sign, perhaps?
The sign was right
Each turn in the road brought a
change in the landscape - from rolling
hills covered in heather and flowers...
to still & brilliant blue water & sky...
to spectacular green mountains.
The village of Shieldaig, overlooking
Loch Shieldaig, in the Torridon region...
one of our favorite photos
Loch Torridon
A typical vista in the Highlands
Abundant splashes of multiple shades
of purple & green dominate the
landscape
Eilean Donan Castle, often appearing
in Hollywood movies and TV shows, is
perched on an islet connected to the
mainland by a stone-arched bridge
Originally built in the 14th century, it is
now a museum with recreations of an
earlier lifestyle
We had the chance to bond with lots of Highland cattle
Both cattle and sheep roam quite freely throughout the Highlands
Picturesque arched stone bridge on the
Isle of Skye
A series of stunning scenes on the Isle of Skye...
a place of beautiful soft mists and sunsets that linger brilliantly.
Plockton, a Western Highlands village
on the shore of Loch Carron
Look closely at the island in the loch
and you'll see palm trees!
One of the prettiest villages we saw.
Each household has a carefully tended
walled garden nestled along the shoreline.
Glen Coe, site of an infamous massacre
in 1692 by soldiers of the Campbell clan
against their hosts, the MacDonalds
The area is regarded by many Scots
as the country's finest glen due to the
dramatic scenery
The route is over Rannoch Moor, one
of the last places to lose its ice at the
close of the Ice Age
Examples of hardy flowers growing in
the craggy rocks of Glen Coe
Even the more modern homes take
great pride in their gardens
A friendly demeanor to welcome visitors!
